If rumours are to be believed, actor Marck Wahlberg will play the male lead in M Night Shyamalan’s next film The Happening.

Shyamalan has also contributed as a writer to the movie, which talks about a family that is on the run from an apocalyptic threat to humanity.

"Mark has a unique blend of charisma, humanity, authenticity and skillfulness as an actor;" Moviehole quoted Shyamalan as saying.

"All of which coalesced at this moment in his career, making him the perfect person to take on the role of Elliot Moore, the science teacher at the centre of this event," he added.

The film has been scheduled for a release on June 13 next year.
