After the success of The Departed, Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon are teaming up for a new film based on the real story of boxer Micky Ward.

According to Variety magazine, The Fighter will see Wahlberg in the lead role, while Damon will play his half-brother, Dickie.

The film will show how Ward rose to fame towards the end of his career, and how he ended his brutal contest with Canadian fighter Arturo Gatti in 2002 by winning on points.

The biopic is also expected to put some light on Ward’s early years, reports Contactmusic.

It is learnt that the boxer’s ability to pick himself up off the canvass is the reason behind his candidacy as a subject for a Hollywood film.

Director Darren Aronofsky is said to be in talks to helm the movie, the shooting of which may being this summer.
