No scope for dialogue with Karna on Cauvery issue: Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday ruled out any talks on the Cauvery issue with Karnataka counterpart HD Kumaraswamy, insisting that he did not discuss the matter with him.

"Kumaraswamy and his father H Deve Gowda are my long time friends. They telephoned me on Monday to convey Ugadi greetings. We did not discuss Cauvery issue at all," he told reporters in Chennai.

Kumaraswamy had said on Tuesday that his state was ready to hold talks with Tamil Nadu to resolve the Cauvery issue, claiming Karunanidhi was in favour of a dialogue.

"There is no scope for any dialogue," Karunanidhi said.

On Jayalalithaa's remarks that the DMK had wanted the interim award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal to be gazetted immediately in 1991, he said the interim award was favourable to the state and that was why he had wanted the award to be notified in the gazette.

But the final award had some adverse points and the state would approach the tribunal seeking their removal, he said.

"I am not for gazetting the final award as it contains some points, which are not favourable to the state. If it is notified, there will be not be any scope for filing a review petition or seeking any clarification," he added.
