He has rendered some of the best performances on the celluloid and she had regaled us with her versatility on both small and big screen. Remember Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi on Doordarshan?. Now, Paresh Rawal and wife Swaroop Rawal, (nee Sampat) Playtime Creations have joined hands with Zee TV to produce a soap on a Gujarati family --- Teen Bahuraniyaan.

To premiere on March 26 at 10.30 pm, the soap gyrates around three daughter-in-laws from extremely different backgrounds - a journalist, a pretty small-town girl and a girl brought up on middle-class values- living under the same roof.

The producers addressing the press in New Delhi on Thursday.

At a time when the saas-bahu sagas are being looked at askance what made Playtime Creations go ahead with a conventional topic. "The soap will not be along the lines of run-of-the-mill family dramas. It will border less on glycerine coated-acts and more on the women who are out to establish their identities", asserts Paresh Rawal.

And what about it being placed at a slot parallel to one of India's premier soaps (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi )? We are not vying with any channel or soap. We are rather presenting a story of a joint family in our own simple ways" maintains Swaroop with her childlike innocence intact.

The absence of a popular face in the serial is also no concern for the producers. As Swaroop put it' "We have taken up new faces who are actors, if not stars. Moreover, it takes ony three days for a good actor to become a star on television".

Speaking on the launch, Ashvini Yardi, programming head Zee TV said " Many of our serials have already struck a chord with the taudience.. But is only in  Teen Bahuraaniyaan that we will have three women as protagonists, unlike the one-woman domain in the other soaps".
