A book, with rare collections of photographs of seven Carnatic musicians, who were instrumental in revolutionising the system, would be released here at a special function on February 8.

Voices Within, written by famous singers, Bombay Jayashree and T M Krishna, with the help of Mythili Chandrasekar, is a salute to the seven gifted, inspiring Carnatic musicians who revolutionised the system, shaped its growth and left their mark on the musical firmament.

The book, which was released at a private function by President, A P J Abdul Kalam, at Delhi some time ago, dealt with seven musicians of the last century-- Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, T N Rajarathnam Pillai, Semmangudi Srinivas Iyer, G B Balasubramaniam, Palghat Mani Iyer, M S Subbulakshmi and T R Mahalingam (Mali), Dr S Sathish Kumar, Managing Trustee of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts, the organisors told reporters last night.

Saying that Voices Within, a coffee table book and first of its kind in Carnatic Music, has essays written in a unique style, rich collection of photographs, letters, notes, conversations and reflections between Krishna and Jayashri, he said.

With Carnatic music really travelling all over the World, the book is designed to have great appeal for international audience, Sathish said.
